FOR GENERAL USERS

All information on the Database is open to the public. Searches can be performed on the database by species and other fields, as well as by experts (contacts), projects or references. Open the Filter dialog box for options.

There are several controlled vocabulary fields. The tables with the terms used are accessible through links to Controlled Vocabulary in the blue dialog box. These terms were agreed upon with the Global Invasive Species Database, and other terms have been added at the request of users over time.

The database system operates in Portuguese. If you have difficulties with the language and need help with specific information, please contact us.

Search by Species: click on Species
A dialog box with several alternatives of fields opens. You may search by one or more criteria (e.g. forma biológica = mamífero and uso econômico = animal de estimação).

Search by geographical location: to check on species in a state or municipality in Brazil, select the name of the state first, then another box will open for the municipality. To view all the species registered for a state or municipality, select these and leave all other fields blank, then presse Enter or click on the button “Pesquisar”.

Search by taxon: specify the taxon you are searching for. The search by latin name does not include the search for synonyms (this will be changed in 2010). We use the Missouri Botanical Garden as our official reference for plants and the Integrated Taxonomy Information System (ITIS) of the United States for the other Kingdoms.

To search by “Forma biológica”, “Dieta”, “Dispersão”, “Vetores de dispersão”, “Rotas de dispersão”, “Forma de introdução” and “Causa de introdução” please look up the controlled vocabulary tables available through the link in the blue dialog box to see which terms can be used.

The fiel Data de introdução must be completed with the year only (4 digits): e.g. “2001”.

Search by experts (Contatos) and data providers: click on Contatos.
You may search by last name, first name, expertise (see the equivalent terms on the controlled vocabulary list), state or country.

Search by Project: Click on Projetos.
You may search by project title, person in charge (Contato) or species latin name or common name.

Search by Bibliography: Click on Bibliografia.
The search returns a reference only, not the articles they refer to.
You may search by title, author, species latin name or common name, or key words.
The key words used are:
Abundância (abundance)

FOR REGISTERED USERS

Use the blue dialog box on the lower right of the opening page to enter your login and password. You will have access to a dialog box entitled Maintenance, which allows you to edit or add data.

Species: gives access to the full species list. To edit or add data, click on the species name.

Contacts: gives access to editing data on the data collaborators.

Projects: gives access to editing the data on projects.

Bibliography: gives access to editing data on references.

In all cases, the edition icon is a pencil. The rubber/eraser suggests deleting data (if you wish to suggest that a species is deleted, please send us an email to justify it). The logic is the same for all the pages.

The taxonomic data can only be edited by the Database Manager. If you want to suggest a name correction or change, please send it by email.

In the occurrences page (Localidades de ocorrência), you must click on each locality to see the full information in the form below the list of places. To edit data, click on the pencil icon on top of the list, on the left.

Projects and references need to be edited through their respective links (not through Species).
